An Owen Sound man was arrested and charged after police say a shotgun was fired from the balcony of a westside apartment building on Wednesday night.
City police said in a news release issued Thursday no one was injured and no damages were reported after two shotgun rounds were fired from an east-facing balcony of an apartment building at 2755 5th Ave. W. There is no evidence that the shots were directed at any person or object, the news release said.
Police responded to the building around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday after receiving complaints of gunshots. Upon arrival, police officers heard gunshots and entered the building. Police determined the apartment where the shots were fired and located a lone man at the residence. The apartment was searched to ensure no one else was there and the man was taken into custody, the news release said.
Early Thursday morning a search warrant was executed at the residence and two sawed off shotguns, ammunition and a small amount of marijuana and prescription drugs were seized. Also seized were handheld electronics such as GPS units and cameras that were believed to be stolen. A stolen licence plate was also seized, the news release said.
Nathan Rice, 27, has been charged with careless use of a firearm, two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon, two counts of unsafe storage of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm and breach of probation. After his arrest, Rice was held in custody for a bail hearing Thursday morning. Further charges are pending, the news release said.
