There were three car-deer collisions investigated in Grey County Tuesday, which prompted a reminder from police to take care on the roads.
The collisions resulted in no reported injuries to occupants of the vehicles. They occurred between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Grey Rd. 13 in Grey Highlands, Grey Rd. 15 in Meaford, and Grey Rd. 40 Chatsworth Township, Grey County OPP Const. Alina Grelik said.
Tips to consider to avoid hitting a deer include being particularly watchful from sunset to midnight and shortly before and after sunrise, watching for more deer where one is seen, and using high beams at night to illuminate their eyes, when there’s no oncoming traffic.
Police also advise people to blast the car’s horn to frighten off deer in view and to brake firmly if one’s in your path — but don’t leave your lane. If you hit the deer and cause more than $2,000 car damage, the collision must be reported to police.
