An Owen Sound man has been charged with arson after a fire was started in an enclosed porch of a home on the city’s east side.
Just before midnight on Tuesday, a concerned citizen contacted the Owen Sound police about a suspicious man knocking on doors in a neighbourhood on the city’s east side.
Police looked for the man in the area, but were then called away for a house fire in the same general area, Owen Sound police said in a news release.
Police arrived at the home and observed flames approximately three to four feet high inside the enclosed front porch of the home.
Members of the city police were able to extinguish the fire and located a man at the scene who had set the blaze, the release said.
The 64-year-old Owen Sound man was arrested and charged with arson – disregarding human life.
The same man was also investigated in relation to a separate unrelated incident from earlier in the day. He was also charged with assault and uttering threats.
