A 40-year-old Saugeen First Nation woman faces arson and drug possession charges after an investigation into a house fire on Highway 21 at 5:14 a.m. May 1.
When emergency crews arrived the vacant house was fully engulfed according to a Grey Bruce OPP news release May 3.
The Saugeen First Nation Fire Department put out the blaze and confirmed that the fire appeared to have been deliberately set.
The Office of the Fire Marshall was consulted during the investigation that identified a suspect who had been seen near the residence and was treated at hospital for non-life threatening burns.
The accused, Crystalee Pitawanakwat, is charged with arson and two counts of possession of a controlled drug, and held for a bail hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice on May 2. Results of that hearing were not available at deadline.
