The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating after a man was taken to hospital with an injury following an incident in the town of Ripley on Monday evening.
Just after 8 p.m., South Bruce OPP received a report of an intoxicated person causing property damage and disturbance in the town.
Witnesses detained the man until officers arrived and took him into custody.
The man was later taken to hospital for a medical assessment for a reported injury, South Bruce OPP said in a news release.
Amen Saunders, 21, of Kincardine, has been charged with causing a disturbance, two counts of uttering threats, resisting a peace officer, two counts of assaulting police, four counts of breach of probation, and breach of a recognizance.
The OPP notified the SIU, which has invoked its mandate.
SIU spokesperson Monica Hudon said Wednesday via e-mail that the man was diagnosed with a serious injury, but could not provide specifics about the type of injury sustained.
She requested that anyone with information about the incident to contact the SIU to let them know what they heard or saw to help assist investigators in better understanding what happened. The SIU can be contacted at 1-800-787-8529.
The SIU is a civilian law enforcement agency independent of the police that investigated incidents involving police officers where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
