Minor midgets score 14 in weekend wins
The Owen Sound Subaru Junior Attack minor midgets won a pair of Tri County Minor Hockey League games on the weekend. On Sunday at the Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre in Owen Sound, the Junior Attack defeated the Burlington Eagles 5-4 with Jaiden Whitlock and Cole Gowan each scoring a pair. Joey Ackert scored the other goal in the win. On Friday night at the rec centre, the Junior Attack defeated the Hespeler Shamrocks AE team 9-1. Jaiden Whitlock had a pair, while singles went to Joey Ackert, Hunter McMillan, Cole Gowan, Landen Humphries, Elliot Thomson, Nolan Andrews, and Tyson Morrison.
Minor bantams shutout Sabres
The Owen Sound Firefighters Junior Attack minor bantam club split games this past weekend at home. Friday they walked away with a 3-0 shutout victory over the Flamborough-Dundas Sabres. Sunday the team lost to the Burlington Eagles-Blue, 5-4.
Peewee-B Ice Hawks open season
The Owen Sound Shannon Deckers of Remax Ice Hawks peewee-B team opened their season this weekend with two games. The first league game of the season was in Wilmot versus the Wolverines. Cali Hill opened the scoring in the second period followed by Shailan Miller getting the game-winner in moments later. Maya Beirnes added an insurance goal in the third. Sarah VanDrunen and Aimee Dubosq played solid in net for the win. On Sunday against Waterloo Ravens in Owen Sound the Ice Hawks opened the scoring in the first period with Shailan Miller scoring. The Ravens would get one back late in the second on a shot from the blue line, the goal resulted in a 1-1 draw for the final score. Dubosq, and Van Drunen shared the netminding duties.
Feltis and Barber share weekend shutouts
The Owen Sound Ice Hawks atom-B team kicked off their regular season with two home games hosting the Ayr Rockets on Saturday and the Cambridge Roadrunners Sunday. Saturday’s game ended in a 1-0 victory. The lone goal was scored by Leah Cooper driving the net for a rebound off a rush by Megan Bumstead. Sunday’s game ended with a 4-0 victory with goals from Camyrn Laycock, Leah Cooper, Abby McMillan and a short-handed marker by Avery Seaman. The weekend’s two shut outs were shared by goaltenders Madison Feltis and Olivia Barber. The team is next in action at home Saturday against the Woolwich Wild.
Minor soccer sets executive
Owen Sound Minor Soccer held its 44th Annual General Meeting on Thursday evening. Kim Martin was awarded the Margaret Hofmann Memorial Volunteer of the Year award.
