United draw Supersonics

The Cambridge Supersonics scored with 10 minutes remaining to salvage a 1-1 tie with Owen Sound Grey Motors United in Kitchener and District Soccer League action Sunday evening in Cambridge.

Simon Petersen scored Owen Sound’s lone goal early in the second half.

The United’s record now stands at 1-2-1 (win-loss-tie). Owen Sound now visits Stratford (2-2-1) Friday.

The United’s home opener,  twice postponed due to inclement weather, will now be July 5 when Owen Sound hosts Listowel at the – hopefully dry – Kiwanis Soccer Complex.

GREY BRUCE LADIES FASTBALL LEAGUE

Scarrow swats double dingers

The Desboro Royals sunk The Meaford Leaky Canoe Ladies 10-0. The Royals Patti Scarrow wholloped two home runs and a single. Rachel Ward homered, and Maddy Moore chipped in a three-RBI double. Nina Gabert and Moore combined for the win on the mound, allowing four hits, with two walks and 11 strikeouts. For Meaford, Erika Ernst and Lisa Skene shared pitching duties, with Skene contributing a double at the plate.

OWEN SOUND MEN’S FASTBALL LEAGUE

Torrie tanks Sutherland

The Keady Jets topped Sutherland Construction 7-5 Monday night as Riley Torrie boomed a three-run home run and whiffed five batters as the club’s hurler. Joel Twigger allowed two hits and was awarded the win. Ryan Whitney takes the loss as Sutherland’s pitcher.

Kewageshig, Torrie combine for 16 Ks

The Shallow Lake Sting midgets shut out the Tara Titans 5-0 Monday. Wade Kewageshig and Owen Torrie shared the pitching for the Sting combining for 16 Ks and giving up just one hit. Matthew Weiler homered for the Sting and Riley Torrie had a single and a double while Austin McComb added two singles.

Astros shut out Rams

The Allenford Astros beat Owen Sound Rams 7-0. Ryan Greig and Chris Mink combined to pitch the shutout, giving up one hit and one walk while striking out seven. Scott Charlton took the loss for the Rams. Ryan Greig had a two-run home run for the Astros and Ty McComb chipped in with his first stand-up triple since 1997.

GREY BRUCE MINOR SOFTBALL

Twins top Colts 9-4

The Tara Hutten & Co. Land and Shore Twins peewee team travelled to Chesley Monday night and defeated the Chesley Colts 9-4. Wyatt Cayley took the mound for the win.

Peewees pester West Grey
The Owen Sound JD Pest Control North Stars peewee-2 squad won 10-2 over the West Grey Rampage in Owen Sound Tuesday night.
Midget N’Stars keep winning
The Owen Sound Crescent Club North Stars midget team beat North Perth 7-3. Curtis Arnold and Carter Moran each notched a pair of goals for the N’Stars in victory.
