Canada topped Panama 7-0 at the 2019 WBSC Americas U17 Men’s Fastpitch Pan American Championship in Guatemala City Wednesday improving their record to 3-1 in round-robin play.

Canada chipped away in the contest scoring a pair of runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings to mercy the Panama club after five frames.

Owen Rahn (Durham) notched a pair of hits and drove in two runs in the game. Matthew Weiler (Hepworth) also racked up a couple of RBIs in while Carson Brooks (Napanee) pitched the five-inning shutout victory.

On Tuesday, Weiler hit a three-run shot in the top of the first inning as the Canadians shut out Mexico 7-0.

Rahn scored a run and Jackson Pegelo (Cargill) earned an RBI as the Canadians beat host country Guatemala, 3-1, Monday.

The Canadians fell to the Americans, 10-5, in the tournament opener Sunday. Pegelo hit a single to centre field to score Connor Brooks and give Canada a 3-0 lead before the American comeback effort. Rahn would later single allowing Brooks to cross the plate again.

The Pan American Championship includes a total of seven teams (Argentina, Belize, Canada, Guatemala, Panama, Mexico and the United States) from the Americas region competing in a full round-robin. Canada will now play Argentina Thursday at 6 p.m. before concluding the round-robin Friday against Belize at 6 p.m.
