Durham and Wilmot take OASA titles in Tara and Allenford

The Ron Nickason Construction Tara Twins competed at the Ontatio Amateur Softball Association Under-14 Provincial Championships this past weekend in Allenford. The Twins went 1-2 over the weekend as Durham earned the gold medal pver St. George in the Provincial B Championship. The Durham Chiefs and Wilmot Thunder (New Hamburg) were crowned tournament winners this past weekend at the Ontario Amateur Softball Association Under-14 Provincial Tournament in Tara and Allenford.

The Thunder topped the Tara MacDonnell Fuels Twins 7-1 in the A Division final to take the gold while the Chiefs took down the St. George Spartans 12-1 in the B Divison title game.

The Tara MacDonnell Fuels Twins went undefeated in round-robin play playing out of the A Division in Tara. The Twins beat Wilmot 5-2 and Drumbo 4-3 on Saturday before downing Elmira 9-4 Sunday to finish 3-0 and earn a berth into the championship game.

In Allenford, the Tara Ron Nickason Construction Twins went 1-2 in the B Division. The Twins fell 8-1 against Durham Saturday morning before beating St. George 3-1. The Twins were then shut out 10-0 Sunday by Wilmot (Baden).

A total of eight teams competed in two bubbles over the weekend as live championship team sports returned to Grey-Bruce.

Teams in both circuits competed in three round-robin games with the top two seeds moving on to the championship games.

COVID-19 protocols prevented the A and B Division champions from exiting their respective bubbles in Tara and Allenford and playing against each other.

Local fastpitch has been operating in some areas since June with limited practices, two coaches and eight players allowed on the field at one time and parents in the outfield.

Exhibition games and scrimmages have been a part of that operation and have expanded since Ontario moved into Phase 3 of the province’s reopening plan.

Six teams will compete in OASA Under-19 action in Drumbo this weekend as Embro, Ivanhoe and Kitchener compete for the A Division championship while Dutton, Jordan and Oshawa will play in the B Division.
