The OSMHG is breaking the season into two parts this year due to the uncertainty amid the COVID-19 pandemic, according to its website.

The first partial season will run from October to December. Registration will then begin again for the second partial season, which will run from January to March.

Registration fees for the three-month mini-seasons run from $120 for under-5 (preschool) to $285 for players from under-10 to under-18 (atom to midget).

The OSMHG’s Return-to-Hockey plan has been approved by the City of Owen Sound and is awaiting approval from the Grey Bruce Health Unit before seeking final approval from the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA).

The hockey on the ice will look different this year as the OSMHG intends to reduce the risk of virus transmission.

All games will be played in either a three-on-three or four-on-four format, and the maximum roster size per team will be 10 players.

The OSMHG is creating two tiers in the Under-10 to Under-18 divisions to create a more competitive environment. Both tiers will be a major and minor mix, and each tier will have a maximum capacity of 50 players per bubble.

The Under-5 division will have one skate per week while all other divisions will hit the ice twice a week. The Under-10 to Under-18 divisions will have one practice and one game per week.

All divisions will play no-contact hockey.

Only one parent per child will be permitted inside the facility and must adhere to OSMHG, the City of Owen Sound and public health guidelines.

All players will not be allowed to play in unsanctioned leagues during the hockey season and must play in only one minor hockey association.

The first two weeks of the season will be spent on skills and player evaluations.

There will be no tryouts for traditional travel hockey or tournaments this year.

According to OMHA guidelines, players can either play for the team they played on last year or return to their home centres.

The OSMHG does not expect representative hockey to return until there is a COVID-19 vaccine available.

The OHF’s Return-to-Hockey Plan has five stages. Stage 3 has five Phases including Phase B and C where games can be played three-on-three or four-on-four with teams of 10 players.

Phase D and Phase E of Stage 3 involved five-on-five play, but most likely won’t occur until 2021 at the earliest.
