Hawks soar to victory
The Owen Sound Hanbidge & Bowman Hawks midget baseball team defeated Flesherton on Wednesday night at Tom Williams Park, 17-1. Brandon Stewart led the offence with three singles while Graham Taylor had a double and a single. Seamus Furness and Eric Houghton shared the win on the mound.
Coghlin scores a pair
The Owen Sound Crescent Club NorthStars shutout Cambridge 9-0 in their playoff game on July 24. Joel Coghlin scored a pair of markers while Travis Morrison, Sam Shakes, Emerson Gottscheu, Eoin MacKay and Calvin Stewart added tallies for the NorthStars.
Snatchers over Warriors
Lisa Skene and Lee Ann McKinnon combined for the win as the Keady Snatchers beat the Nawash Warriors, 11-2, in Grey Bruce Ladies Fastball League action. Skene and McKinnon notched nine strikeouts for Keady while Shine McKnight hit for the cycle. Skene and Jen Taylor each had three singles in the winning effort. Earlier in the week the Snatchers edged the Desboro Royals 3-2 on a rainy Tuesday night.
Gators snap Meaford in season finale
The Allenford Gators beat the Meaford Leeky Canoes, 6-3, in the last night of the GBLFL regular season. Keri Emke and Keri Urbshott had a combined eight strikeouts. For the Gators, Trudy Waugh had a triple while Julie Thompson had two triples and a double. Ashley Clock and Jen Croft each had a double for Meaford. Earlier in the week the Gators beat Nawash 13-5.
Bad news for Bulldogs
The Bad News Bears defeated the Desboro Bulldogs, 10-6, in GBLFL action on Wednesday night. Kristen Jacques led the Bears attack with two RBIs on a triple and a double. Meghan Rogers had three RBIs for the Bulldogs.
Bears lead standings
At the close of the GBLFL regular season schedule the Bad News Bears topped the standings table with a 26 points after recording 12 wins and three losses. The Allenford Gators and Desboro Royals round out the top-three teams. A nine-team playoff schedule will being on July 30 with the championship game scheduled for August 16.
Torrie whiffs 10
Riley Torrie’s 10 strikeouts helped the Keady Jets to a 8-1 win over Tara in Owen Sound Mens Fastball League action. Jeremy Torrie had two RBIs in the winning effort.
Torrie’s smash lifts Sting
The Shallow Lake Sting defeated the Williamsford Woodsmen 10-6. Winning pitchers for the Sting were Terran Hooey and Mitch McComb. Owen Torrie hit a home run and added two singles while Zach Taylor hit a triple and two singles.
United squash Stratford
The Owen Sound United under-13 rep squad played Stratford on Tuesday. The rain held off for the away game and allowed Owen Sound to take the win, 5–2. The second-place United will play the first place team next Tuesday in Walkerton.
Sparling and Hillyer tops in horseshoes
The pair of Wilf Sparling and Paul Hillyer topped the week’s games at the Grey County Horseshoe Club. Jim Hamill and Ken Hilsden placed second while Jim Corbett and Leyland Wybille finished third. The club plays every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Chatsworth Legion – new players are welcome.
