The Owen Sound/Shallow Lake Selects will live to fight another day at the Softball Canada U14 Canadian Fast Pitch Championship tournament in Stouffville.

After falling to Napanee, 9-7, on Saturday morning the Selects crushed Saskatoon 11-4 and now will need to win three-straight on Sunday to take home the gold medal.

It’s the same road the Owen Sound Selects under-23 squad travelled to their national championship win just last weekend — tough, but not impossible.

Isaiah Keir led the way on Saturday afternoon with three RBIs on a three-for-four day at the plate. He also struck out three while allowing three hits in three innings on the mound.

Jack Myles took over on the hill and struck out six in three innings to share in the winning effort.

Six Owen Sound/Shallow Lake batters drove in runs in the do-or-die game against Saskatoon. Jaiden Whitlock, Brad Curry and Colby McComb picked up RBIs. Spencer Davidson and Austin Griffin each drove in a pair of runs.

In the Saturday morning contest Owen Sound/Shallow Lake scored three runs in the top of the first inning against the Napanee Express.

However, the early offensive onslaught wasn’t enough as the Express slowly chipped away at the lead before breaking it open in the fourth inning and eventually winning the game 9-7.

Gavin Brooks drove in four runs for the Express, three of which came on a fourth-inning triple that gave Napanee their first lead of the game.  Brooks struck out three batters in three innings of work on the mound for the Express as well.

Ethan Sutcliffe drove in two runs, and scored two runs, in the effort.

For the Selects, Keir, Jack Myles and Owen Cox all shared time on the mound.

Spencer Davidson went two-for-three and scored three runs.

Owen Sound/Shallow Lake will now face-off against the host Stouffville Storm in another must-win game Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. The Selects narrowly topped the Storm, 4-3, in round-robin play on an extra-innings RBI single from Whitlock.
