Back by popular demand, the Owen Sound Bug Juice North Stars will once again host Owen Sound Minor Lacrosse Day this Saturday as the N’Stars host the league-leading Oakville Titans.
All minor lacrosse players and bench staff will be granted free entry into the game and are asked to wear their North Stars jerseys.
The atmosphere at the Bayshore should be heightened by the youthful crowd as the senior teams jostle for position with the defending league champions.
Professional lacrosse goalie and Owen Sound native Ethan Woods will be on-hand to sign autographs. Team Ontario girls field lacrosse players have been invited to partake in the ceremonial opening face-off.
Paperweight-age players will be on the floor for the singing of the national anthem, and a North Stars senior B jersey will be given away.
There will be a photo booth, group picture, ball bounce, hardest shot, jellybean guess, autograph signing and more.
Organizers say the event was such a success in 2018 they had to do it again as the senior and minor lacrosse organizations work together to help grow the sport in Owen Sound and the surrounding area.
Minor lacrosse parents, players, and volunteers have helped with the ticket-taking and 50/50 draws at senior and junior games while the senior and junior players often attend practices and have sponsored minor teams throughout the lacrosse season.
Minor lacrosse players have also been invited to join the “ball-kid crew” at senior games during warm-ups and shoot the ball around during the N’Stars intermissions.
The Owen Sound Minor Lacrosse organization recently held its annual Father’s Day Heritage Classic tournament with three local teams making the championship game out of the five divisions. The midget team won the title for the second straight year.
The Oakville Titans have played to a 9-1-0 record after ten games while the North Stars are 6-3-0 and have won their last four straight games.
Oakville’s Cree Blakely currently leads Ontario Series Lacrosse with 36 points while Owen Sound’s Shawn Lantz rounds out the Top-5 with 33 points on the year.
Game time at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre is scheduled for 7 p.m.
